After 14 years in power, the British Conservatives, or Tories, face a major defeat in today’s parliamentary elections. The results of the sociological polls show that the Labor Party, which has been in opposition until now, will win an impressive victory in them, but the usual ruling party will still have to fight to ensure the status of the most important opposition force.
The predictable defeat of conservatives is explained by various circumstances, AP writes. Theoretically, voting could also take place at the end of this year or in the first months of next year, but Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has chosen to speed it up. Sky News reports that several circumstances could have prompted the head of government to make such a decision.
