Flash floods have occurred in Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, Kurigram, Rangpur and Gaibandha districts in the northern part of the country due to the flow from upstream. Anti-discrimination student movement coordinator Abdul Quader said that the cash received from the public relief program at TSC will be used for the victims.

In a message sent to the media on Monday (September 30), Abdul Quader, coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, said, “We have finalized the initial phase of negotiations to stand by the flood-affected people of Rangpur Division.” The local administration has sufficient quantity of dry and heavy food, rice-dal oil products, the student representative and the local administration will work in coordination for distribution.

Students of Rangpur division of Dhaka and students of local level will be formed as student representatives. The relief activities will be started initially with the overall support of the Disaster and Relief Ministry and if necessary, the relief activities will be continued with a part of the rehabilitation fund of the anti-discrimination student movement raised earlier and the remaining part will be spent on the rehabilitation of the eastern region later, he said.

Another coordinator Abu Bakr Majumder said in his Facebook post asking for help for the flood victims of the northern region, ‘Floods have occurred in North Bengal due to heavy rains and rising waters of the Teesta River. We are going to undertake relief activities in the flood affected areas in North Bengal with the cash that we have collected earlier. Your full cooperation is highly desirable.’

Incidentally, earlier, a total of Tk 11 crore 10 lakh 13,569 was collected in 14 days of the anti-discrimination student movement’s public relief program at TSC of Dhaka University. Of this money collected, 1 crore 75 lakh 12,794 rupees have been shown as expenditure in various sectors. Currently this fund has 9 crore 35 lakh 775 taka.
