SUV cars have established themselves in the European market as true family cars with little capabilities to go outside. One of the examples is the Suzuki Vitara, which first arrived on the Spanish market in 1988 to become, according to Japanese designers, “the first modern SUV in history, characterized by an attractive design , tall and compact in body.” , impeccable behavior on the road and agile in the city, and good abilities to work off the asphalt.
From the first look, with its compact three-door body, the Vitara has nothing to do with the big 4x4s that are already on the market. With a 1.6-liter, 80 HP gasoline engine and small dimensions (3.56 meters in length and less than 1,000 kilograms in weight), it moves with agility off and on the asphalt, thanks to the developed suspension systems.
Times have changed, and so has the small Vitara, because in the current generation it has become a large vehicle, with five doors and five seats, that has been refined and aimed at a more family-related audience, in in addition to receiving hybrid intelligence with which it achieves great performance in terms of fuel consumption and emissions.
In its latest update, which is now on the market, it presents a new front design, characterized by clean lines and refined details that emphasize its personality. The new full LED headlights, bumper and grille, finished in black, give it a more modern and distinct image. At the rear, the new roof spoiler grows and extends towards the C-pillar, giving the rear more volume.
The engines that potential buyers can choose between are two light variants: the Weak Hybrid (available from the start of sales) and the Strong Hybrid (which will arrive later), with traction options 4×2 and 4×4 AllGrip, and three levels of completion S1, S2 and S3, starting from 24,500 euros.
In addition to the aesthetic and mechanical update, the new Vitara adds a new infotainment system with more advanced functions and a new large high definition screen (9 inches). It integrates navigation, voice recognition, a rear view camera and wireless connectivity via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
