Although a year of congressional investigations have failed to find evidence of crimes or wrongdoing, especially regarding possible ties to his son Hunter’s foreign businesses, Republicans are moving forward in their attempt to impeach the president, Joe Biden. The Conservatives, in control of the Lower House, are preparing to vote to authorize the formal opening of the investigation, a step that will formalize the inquiries they have been carrying out so far and give them more authority to undertake this task.

The move is being denounced as a political ploy and “fishing expedition” by Democrats, and is seen by many as an effort by conservatives to try to divert attention from the legal troubles of former President Donald Trump, the Republican front-runner for 2024 .
Since they gained control of the Lower House, and even before, the investigation of the president has been an obsession of the Republicans and, especially, of the most radical wing of the party. Now, with the ultra-conservative Mike Johnson in the House presidency, and after overcoming the reluctance of more moderate Republican congressmen elected in disputed districts, they are ready to take another step. And they do, although in the work done so far, with hearings, subpoenas and requests through which they have accumulated thousands of pages of documents and testimonies, they have not managed to find anything to support their accusations. n
