Unemployed people who receive the subsidy for people over 52 years of age must meet a series of requirements if you want to receive this aid, which consists of a monthly payment equivalent to 80% of the Multiple Effects Public Income Indicator (IPREM), and this year 2023 it reaches 480 euros.

To receive this aid, as with other types of public benefits, potential beneficiaries must meet a series of requirements. And in the case of self-employed workers, they are sometimes difficult to comply with.

For example, the Public State Employment Service (SEPE) requires having contributed for at least 15 years throughout your working life to receive this aid. Two of these years must be accredited in the last fifteen and the applicant must have contributed for six years for unemployment in the general scheme. If not, the subsidy will not be granted to those over 52 years of age.

The requirement to have contributed for unemployment is the one that really harms the self-employed, since throughout their lives they have contributed to different Social Security schemes, such as RETA, which does not contribute for unemployment but for the benefit for cessation of activity. Therefore, that person will only be able to access their retirement pension.
