Thanks to three victories in three matches this Sunday, the Rest of the World team won the 5th edition of the Laver Cup (13-8). A first after four successes in Europe.
With the retirement of Roger Federer and the first victory for the Rest of the World team in five appearances, the 2022 edition of the Laver Cup will certainly go down in history. However, nothing seemed to predict a victory for captain John McEnroe’s men at the end of the day on Saturday, since Europe led 8-4.
But this Sunday’s games were worth 3 points if they won, and the team in red won them all. After the successes in doubles of the Auger-Aliassime/Sock pair (against Murray/Berrettini) and in singles of this same Auger-Aliassime (against Djokovic), it is finally Frances Tiafoe who, overcoming the Greek Tsitsipas (1- 6, 7-6, then 10-8 in the super tie-break), brought the last three points synonymous with victory.
After losing the first four editions in Prague, Chicago, Boston and Geneva, the Rest of the World finally got their hands on the trophy, on European soil, in London.
