“We are in a financial position that we could only dream of five years ago,” he said, adding that with this kind of monthly income, you can already save for retirement.
Of the nine sources of income associated with Bistro Huddy, Talbert said he earns “six figures” a year. With the money he earned, he and his wife were able to become homeowners.
The man, who has worked in the restaurant for 22 years, has previously auditioned and taught at a local improv and sketch comedy school. While they were stuck at home during the COVID-19 lockdown, his wife showed him sketch comedy videos on TikTok. He decided to try making a few of his own.
One of his first videos, which became a real sensation, was about an encounter he had while working as a waiter, with Talbert playing the waitress, the customer (using his wife’s clothes and wigs from his sketch comedy classes) and the customer’s child.
“Everyone is looking for their niche,” assured D. Talbert. “I was able to use my sketch comedy basics that I’ve been working on for years. Writing, acting, characters – all these things kind of merged into one,” he said.
He named his fake restaurant Bistro Huddy after his son Hudson.
His first brand partnership, which he secured early on, allowed him to replace his service income. Since then, he said, Bistro Huddy’s growth has been pretty steady.
The writing and editing process that Talbert and his wife do takes about five to six hours, a relatively quick process that he attributes to their experience in acting and social media. Still, he tries to keep his videos pretty simple.
