The entrepreneurs of the Cerdanya restaurant organize the first major sectoral meeting so that the problems they have suffered in recent high seasons resulting from a mismanaged sudden success do not fester. In this sense, among professionals there is the impression that the tourism in the region suffers from structural problems that can make him die of success.
The main problems facing tourism in Cerdanya in this new post-pandemic scenario are one greater deseasonalizationwith absolute tourist peaks and, on the other hand, days in the same month of August with very low occupations, and labor shortage. This second problem is exacerbated by the real estate pressure that prevents temporary workers from finding accommodation, to the point that in many establishments in the valley the job offer must now be supplemented with a place to sleep. Faced with this scenario, the restaurateurs of the region have organized one for Tuesday, October 3rd great sectoral meeting in Puigcerdà The meeting must be used to share the experiences lived this past summer, with some August days full of tourists that have placed the region with a population of 100,000 inhabitants and other weeks since July without reservations. In this sense, July proved to be a slack month just as it had been before the pandemic. From the convening entities they have pointed out that in the meeting they will be put on the table main shortcomings of tourism and at the same time they will be presented new establishments that have joined the region and that they climb towards the figure of 300, according to data from the same sector. The agreements that are established at the meeting will be raised to the representatives of the town councils and the County Council in order that its tourism technicians also work in favor of one less seasonal economy and, at the same time, diversified with respect to the model of second residences.
The second major problem in the tourism sector in Cerdanya, but also in other business areas such as services or food distribution, is the lack of qualified labor. Hoteliers and restaurateurs have had many difficulties in the summer in finding staff from outside Cerdanya and they want the institutions to facilitate the arrival of employees in the valley with the ability to work and live there at housing prices reasonable
