Half of the Senate is renewed on Sunday, September 24, during an indirect vote in which only the major voters participate (parliamentarians as well as regional and departmental councilors and municipal elected officials). In total, 170 seats are at stake, in thirty-eight metropolitan departments, six overseas territories and six constituencies of French people living abroad.

Depending on the departments and the number of senators who will be elected there, two distinct voting methods are planned:
– And two-round majority vote in the departments which will each elect one or two senators.
The results of the first round, released by the Ministry of the Interior, will be final at 3:30 p.m. At 1:40 p.m., there were twelve senators elected in this first round.
The results of the second round, and therefore the names of those elected, will be known from 6:30 p.m.
