The RN, “first opponent” to Emmanuel Macron, but regular support for the National Assembly

The presidential majority knows that it can sometimes count on the deputies of the National Rally (RN): fairly mobilized, far-right elected representatives vote, on average, more than half the time in favor of bills or law emanating from the government or its majority relative to the National Assembly, according to the calculations of the Decoders of the Monde.

This has not escaped his tenors, who rely on this pivot group more easily than on the left of the Hemicycle. The leader of the Renaissance group, Aurore Bergé, or the ministers sometimes make sure of this discreetly, by texting the Vice-President (RN) of the National Assembly, Sébastien Chenu, guarantor of the notabilisation of the party extreme right within the walls of the Palais-Bourbon. Could they abstain, or even vote for? Will they be little or very mobilized? The solidarity of votes within the RN, the strongest of all the groups at the Palais-Bourbon – freedom to vote is left on certain societal subjects – makes these soundings all the more useful.

The majority relied in particular on the RN on the text “in favor of purchasing power”on that “against illegal occupation of housing”for the construction of new nuclear power plants, the text preparing the Olympic and Paralympic Games of 2024 or even the programming laws of the ministries of the interior and of defence. “We cannot yet pass our bills or our amendments, but without us, few can pass much”welcomes Mr. Chenu.

In the eyes of the RN, one of the challenges of this first year of the sixteenth legislature was to get rid of a « caricature » : “sectarianism and ideology”. If it has to go through encouraging government bills, so be it. “Our opposition is not hysterical, it is not the blocking of institutions. It is a position that we have chosen, and we are discharged. »

This proximity to the final texts is less true if we consider all the public ballots (amendments, texts and solemn votes), analyzed by the Datan site. There, the proximity of the RN to the votes of the majority falls to 35%, a rate identical to that of the socialists and close to those of the environmental groups and Freedoms, independents, overseas and territories ‘LIOT). This does not prevent La France insoumise, in its first-year review, from pointing “Macronie and the RN hand in hand against the workers”pointing out common positions on fiscal, environmental or purchasing power issues.
