After more than a month with landslides and partial closures, the Bogotá – Villavicencio road will begin to operate completely normally for cargo and light vehicles.

As announced by the Ministry of Transportation, starting this coming Friday, September 8, the road corridor will be enabled 24 hours a day and without any type of restriction for these two types of vehicles.

Despite this, the authorities were clear that the only fixed restrictions will be for buses, minibuses and other intermunicipal transportation passenger vehicles.

The latter as a protection measure “seeking to reduce the risk for those who circulate through this corridor,” said MinTransporte.

The main damage to this road corridor occurred after the tragedy in the municipality of Quetame, Cundinamarca, which left 29 fatalities and more than 254 families affected.

Investment plan announced for that sector

But, in addition to notifying the expected total reopening of that road, the National Government also announced a whole package of measures to improve mobility conditions in that sector.

As it was known this Thursday, the Minister of Transportation, William Camargo, visited the road to Llano to meet with the local leaders and businessmen of Villavicencio and Meta.

During the meeting, Camargo assured that “we have arranged all the technical and operational capacity of the attached entities such as the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) and the National Institute of Roads (Invías) to make investments that are already underway and that allow to reduce the effects due to climatic conditions.”

In that sense, the Government announced that it will invest a total of 232,886 million pesos to solve the most priority effects of that road corridor, since the necessary budget is not yet available to invest the entire amount of resources that would be needed to address all the damages.

Precisely because of these economic limitations, the Government also announced a long-term plan that involves the investment of $8.41 billion by Invias and another $8.32 billion by ANI to complete the construction of four highway megaprojects such as: the Chirajara IP – Founders, Malla Vial del Meta, Transversal del Sisga and Villavicencio – Yopal.
