Luna Chamtai Salpter recorded the greatest achievement of her career at the age of 33. The Israeli marathon runner impressed today (Monday) with a bronze medal at the World Athletics Championships, when she stopped the clock at 2: 20.18 hours. Chamtai won Israel’s fourth medal ever at the World Championships after Alex Averbuch (silver and bronze in pole vault) and Hannah Minenko (silver in triple jump).
Chamtai’s career was accompanied by quite a few “almost” until this great race. The Israeli, who was born in Kenya, was at the top of the prestigious running during the Olympic Games in Tokyo and had to stop for a long time after abdominal cramps. As a result she finished in 66th place with great disappointment.
Three years ago, she retired from the World Championships in Doha even though she was in the medal picture due to a heat stroke. After all this and at the age of 33 she made the list especially today with a smart race that led her to a historic podium and the fourth ever medal of Israel in the World Athletics Championships, and the first in long runs.
