The Russian dead in the invasion of Ukraine come mainly from the poor districts

by time news

The war in Ukraine has already claimed 6,655 confirmed deaths on the Russian side, but it seems that the rate of deaths in the poor districts is higher than the other districts. For example, in the rich cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg there is less than one death per hundred thousand people, compared to dozens of deaths in the poor regions such as Buryatia and Tova. The centers of government and the economy, including oil and gas producing districts, are less recruited into the army, while in the poor periphery and among ethnic minorities the recruitment is much more extensive.
