The Russian Foreign Ministry commented on the statements of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who considered the statements about the genocide in the Donbass ridiculous. Earlier, President Vladimir Putin, at a joint press conference with Scholz, called what is happening in this region a genocide.
“It is not for German leaders to laugh at questions of genocide. This is unacceptable, given the historical experience of Germany in matters of mass killings of people and the spread of a misanthropic ideology,” the department told TASS.
Scholz commented on Putin’s statements about the genocide in the Donbass, speaking at the Munich Security Conference.
“He (Putin) goes on to argue that something like a genocide is happening in the Donbass, which is really ridiculous, let’s face it. But this is his story. It has always helped us when we listened to what others have to say. I have already quoted an article that Putin wrote six months ago. If we take it literally, it will not be very optimistic for the future. I refuse to do it. I perceive this as a historical discussion, I answer as I did in the first conversation here: we cannot change borders, we must accept the integrity and sovereignty of the country, ”said Scholz (quoted by RIA Novosti).
