Daniil Medvedev was sensationally defeated by Frenchman Ugo Humbert in the semi-final of the ATP 500 tournament in Dubai. The Russian collapsed in two sets against the insidious Frenchman, capable of prevailing with a score of 7-5, 6-3. The world number 4 bowed to number 18 in the ATP ranking, who will now face the Kazakh Alexander Bublik (who beat the Russian Andrey Rublev due to disqualification) in the final act.
Today’s result closely affects ours Jannik Sinner, who has in fact widened his lead over Medvedev in the international rankings. The 28-year-old was in fact unable to defend the 500 points he gained with the success achieved in this event twelve months ago, but he only took home 200 by reaching the semi-final and therefore he lost 300. Daniil Medvedev is in fourth place in the ATP rankings with 7,715 points under his belt. Jannik Sinner is third with 8,270 points and so currently has a margin of 555 points towards the rival.
With this advantage he will present himself at the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells, which will start on March 6 on US hard courts. The South Tyrolean champion is behind the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz (8,805 points), who he will surpass if he obtains a better result than the Spaniard in Indian Wells. The Serbian Novak Djokovic is in command (9,675 points).
