According to US information, North Korea has delivered a large amount of military equipment to Russia in recent weeks, the White House said on Friday. According to the information, the shipments left the North Korean port of Raszon by ship to the Far Eastern Russian port of Dunaj, from where they were taken by rail to Tyhoreck, located 290 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. The White House has also released footage, which it assesses shows containers being loaded onto a ship flying the Russian flag, which, according to the US assessment, is helping Russia’s war in Ukraine.
John Kirby, the White House’s National Security Council communications coordinator, said the United States believes North Korea could get advanced Russian military technology in exchange for a shipment of ammunition from Russia. The United States has previously released information about North Korea sending small shipments of missiles to Russia, but this is the first time it has released information about a major arms movement.
Kim Jong Un North Korean leader made a six-day visit to Russia in September, where he met Vladimir Putin with the Russian president, with whom he discussed the deepening of defense cooperation.
According to North Korea’s state media, after his visit to Russia, the country’s supreme leader aimed to speed up nuclear weapons production and urged North Korea to play a more significant role within the coalition of countries opposing the United States, in what it described as “the new Cold War.”
