8 out of 10 Russians have encountered telephone scammers at least once in their lives, and every seventh became their victim, having lost money or property, follows from a survey of the SuperJob job search service.
At the same time, 13% of respondents receive suspicious phone calls every day, another 20% receive them at least once a week, and the same number – about once a month. Once a year, unknown persons tried to cheat on the phone by 16% of Russians; 12% of citizens do not know anything about telephone fraud at all.
It is noted that about 16% of economically active Russians become victims of telephone scams. According to the survey, every ninth person fell for their bait once, every twentieth – several times.
The victims say that they were “supposedly called from a bank, and there was a well-known scheme, as if under hypnosis,” or “there was a short dial tone from an unknown number, and after the person called back, 900 rubles were debited from him.”
More often women, as well as Russians over 45 years old, are being deceived. The respondents noted the relationship between the growth of their income and the increase in the frequency of suspicious phone calls.
In total, more than 1.6 thousand Russians living in different regions of the country took part in the survey.
