AMD announced a Ryzen laptop processor late last month that includes its V-Cache 3D, the Ryzen 9 7945HX3D. Once the equipment that includes it begins to arrive on the market, so do the analyzes, although there are not many. But they agree that, in games, it is the most powerful processor on the market because it takes better advantage of NVIDIA’s RTX 4090 than the Ryzen 9 7945HX or the Core i9-13950HX.

In the analysis of Hot Hardware of the ROG Strix Scar 17 X3D that includes this processor can be verified, although also in the AnandTech, Notebookcheck or on the announcer’s channel Matthew Monitz.

For example in F1 2021 it goes from 201 f/s with an RTX 4090 on the ROG Strix Scar 17 to 263 f/s on this computer, also surpassing the Titan GT77 HX with the Core i9-13950HX in which 210 f/s are achieved. At least at FHD, because at QHD the distance is better, 203 f/s vs. 182 f/s and 193 f/s, but still a 5-11% difference. In Guardians of the Galaxy at QHD, you get 96 fps with the 7945HX, 98 fps with the 13950HX, and 107 fps with the 7945HX3D, up another 11% difference.

The RTX 4090 is already a powerful graphics card for laptops, so processors that are up to the task are starting to be needed. In the end, the problem is the thermal limitation of laptop cooling, so the additional cache helps a lot to get the most out of the RTX 4090.

In other more general uses, the performance of the processor is clearly not the best, although it usually is too. That will depend on the program you’re using, and while it’s usually slightly better than the Core i9-13950HX, it’s also often tied for, or even slightly behind, the 7945HX. At least now clearly Intel has lost the crown of its processors in the laptop sector when it comes to taking advantage of graphics cards. The new king is the Ryzen 9 7945HX3D.
