Raphaël Arnault, the candidate of the New Popular Front, won the election in the first constituency of Vaucluse with 54.98% of the vote, beating Catherine Jaouen of the National Rally (RN), who collected 45.02%.
Raphaël Arnault, an activist of the Young Antifascist Guard, a movement that calls for a violent strategy, is originally from the Lyon region and is listed as “S” in the police register of individuals potentially dangerous to national security because on his membership in this movement. As a spokesman for this ultra-leftist anti-fascist organization known for its violent actions, he has been accused of several assaults and threats. Alice Cordier, director of the Némésis Feminist Identity Collective, claims he recorded him making death threats against her.
Recently, the police questioned Raphaël Arnault for advocating terrorism after he expressed his “solidarity” on social networks with the “Palestinian resistance” after the bloody attacks by Hamas on Israel on October 7.
