Ah, Congolese people! A few days ago, the author of these lines published on his Twitter account a facsimile of a writing that could be described as a “historical document” released in August 2006 the day after the first round of the ‘presidential election. The text is a transcription of a stamped fax message “Ultra Confidential”. The author is none other than Abbé Apollinaire Malu Malu, then president of the CEI (Independent Electoral Commission), the ancestor of the CENI.

It is a “distress message” better, a “call for help” that the President of the Central Electoral Office at the time addressed to the famous “international community”. Behind this sweet denomination, we find in particular: the commander of the European Force in the DRC; MONUC (UN Mission in Congo); the CIAT (International Transition Support Committee); the UNDP Resident Representative and the Head of the European Union Delegation.

“Monsieur l’Abbé” underlines writes, in essence, to have tried everything to put “Joseph Kabila” in the lead in front of his challenger Jean-Pierre Bemba Gombo. Without success. “I did everything you wanted: I hired experts from Parec, PPRD and other agents of the People’s Power Committee” (CPP).

And to add: “But it is the people who voted and who recognize the orientation of their voices”. Results: Bemba obtains 52%; Kabila 27.7%. Malu Malu was anything but naive. He knew that “JPB”, labeled Mobutist, was not the candidate of the West. More seriously, the priest felt threatened by the henchmen of the outgoing president. Men renowned for their easy trigger. The tanks circulated through the capital.

In conclusion of his message, Malu Malu to assert: “In my opinion, there is no longer any reason to delay the publication of the results unduly, as these have been brought to the attention of the public by religious denominations, NGOs and other independent observers. Failing this, play to decide between them in the second round on the condition of quickly raising the necessary funds for the organization of this last stage. (…). The second round will be organized in October.

You have read and understood that the winner of the 2006 presidential election was called Jean-Pierre Bemba Gombo. And this from the first round organized in July. This was without taking into account the donors who had financed these political consultations to the order of $440 million. They expected a “return on investment”. They had chosen their favourite. A man who remains, to this day, a mystery for the vast majority of Congolese. A man with a controversial past whose resume is limited to two paragraphs.

The reactions of the “twittos” were quick. The author of these lines is treated as a storyteller. That’s an understatement. And yet, the aforementioned bodies are for the most part still in Kinshasa. The detractors of the said document had only to approach them to verify the authenticity. Without knowing badly the ex-Zairians whose judgment very often derives from “intimate conviction”.

Here is a small anthology of reactions: “I am not an expert but it is a fake. The form and content are subject to caution »; “Big fake, faulty lab”; “Even the lie is amazed!” »; “This document only comes out today really, hum! »; “So you forgot to put the date on your rag?” No perfect crime”. Here is the bundle: “How can you tell this fax is genuine?” The lexicon, the syntax used leaves me largely perplexed, it does not even look like a seminarian ». Phew!

As we can see, our people, for the most part, seem to consider as “false” not only everything that they are unaware of, but above all everything that does not suit their particular interests. It is true that in eighteen years of exercise of state power, “Joseph Kabila” has created a clientele. This is made up of all the caudataires who owe him their social ascent.

Question: Until when will the people of the “Great Congo” allow themselves to be crushed by intellectual laziness to the point of looking like this idiot who looks at the finger while the Sage shows them the moon?
