MALANG – Located in the highlands, and in the middle of a plantation owned by PTPN IX Semingkir, the Pengasinan Well is believed to be a sacred well. The water source in Semingkir Village, Randudongkal District, Pemalang Regency, has water that tastes salty.

The proverb of sour in the mountain, salt in the sea, doesn’t apply to the Salting Well. This is because the Salting Wells, located in the highlands and far from the sea, actually have water with a salty taste and are believed to be able to treat various kinds of skin diseases.

This sacred well is on the slopes of Mount Slamet. From the folklore that developed in the community, the spring is a meeting point, a link between the south sea and the north sea.

The local people believe that the water from the well has good luck, which is efficacious for treating various kinds of skin diseases. No wonder so many people come to that place to treat skin diseases.

People who come to the sacred wells, not only come from around the location, but many from outside the area such as Pekalongan, Tegal, Brebes, Cirebon, and various other cities.

According to a local resident, Jojon, the source of the salt spring has been around for a long time. In fact, before there was a PTPN IX plantation. He said, if certain days are like Friday Kliwon, many come to fetch water or bathe.

“On Friday Kliwon is usually crowded, many people come to fetch water, some also bathe,” said Jojon, Saturday (6/5/2023). They believe, on Friday Kliwon, the luck or efficacy of salting well water is very efficacious. Even that night, the water came out so much that it overflowed.

Another myth, in this place if you take a shower you have to leave your underwear. It’s no wonder that around the salting well, you can see lots of underwear used by people who bathe scattered.
