The savings rate of Spanish households stood at 7.2% of their disposable income in 2022, which is 6.6 points below that registered in 2021, and the lowest since 2018, according to figures from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

In a year marked by high inflation rates and a higher cost of living, Spanish families saved 58,457 million euros, 46% less than in 2021, while increasing their consumption spending by 11.5%, to 756,862 million euros, and increased their investment by 13.7%, up to 59,291 million euros.

In this way, households presented disposable income of 817,536 million euros in 2022, 3.6% more than in 2021.

The savings achieved by Spanish households in 2022 were not enough to finance the investment they made, with which their financing needs stood at 1,753 million euros, in contrast to their 2021 financing capacity of 57,636 million euros.
