The National Electoral Chamber (CNE) approved this Thursday, through Extraordinary Agreement No. 35, the electoral schedule for this year’s national elections, in which the presidential formula is chosen and half of the Chamber of Deputies and a third of the Senate.

The schedule establishes, among other issues, the dates of the primary (PASO) and general elections, when the registers can be consulted, the recognition of electoral alliances and the deadlines of the electoral campaign.

The Open, Simultaneous and Mandatory Primaries, in which the candidates who will compete in the general are defined, will take place on Sunday, August 13, while the general will be held on October 22.

In addition, the dates of the mandatory presidential debates were set, which will be held on October 1 and October 8, and in the event of a second round, a third debate will be held on November 12.

Here are the main dates:

Open, Simultaneous and Compulsory Primary (PASO)

May 5th: publication of the provisional register

June 14th: deadline for alliance submission

June 24: deadline for the presentation of lists of candidates and start of the electoral campaign

July 9th: start of the electoral campaign in audiovisual media

July 14: designation of table authorities. Printing and publication of the definitive standards

July 29: dissemination of polling places and tables

August 11 at 8:00 a.m.: beginning of the electoral season

August 13: PASO elections (End of the electoral season at 9:00 p.m.)

August 15th: start of final scrutiny

General elections

September 2: deadline for the registration of the candidates proclaimed in the PASO

September, 17th: start of the electoral campaign in audiovisual media

September 22: ratification of the table authorities. Printing and publication of the definitive standards

October 1st: first mandatory presidential debate

October 7: dissemination of polling places and tables

October 8th: second mandatory presidential debate

October 20 at 8:00 a.m.: beginning of the electoral season

October 22: general elections (End of the electoral season at 9:00 p.m.)

October 24th: start of final scrutiny

Eventual second round

12th of November: mandatory presidential debate

November 19th: possible second round
