Remigijus Lapinskas, who became the manager of LIDL-MKL last spring, will continue his work at the helm of the league in the coming season. A lot of activity is expected, because managing the kitchen of the biggest basketball league in Lithuania is not easy. Before starting the new season, the president of the league reviewed the work of the previous year.
“I am interested in the future in all areas, and youth is one such area. After all, they will create the conditions for future life. Therefore, when I received an invitation from LKF to become the head of MKL last year, I accepted this responsibility after consideration. I made sure that the activity in this area is dynamic, there is a lot of it, but I can see our progress, so I really don’t regret it,” the head of MKL recalled his first steps.
According to him, during those years of work, the MKL organization grew in all senses: both in terms of sports and management. In addition to other innovations and extended successful examples, such as the MKL Star Day, a completely new championship for the U13 girls’ age group appeared, and the 3×3 basketball championships organized by the league joined the big basketball.
Now about 7 thousand people play sports in the league. children and young people – in age groups from U12 to U19, both boys and girls.
“Although we are an independent league, organizing those 27 championships per season would be impossible without the help of the Lithuanian Basketball Federation. We are glad that the federation supports us and supports our ideas, from improving various rules, attracting judges to financing issues. By the way, in terms of finances, we managed to attract new private sponsors during the year and increase the MKL budget by about a third”, said the MKL president.
An important aspect is the league’s relationship with schools. According to R. Lapinskas, now they are very good.
“We are trying to find a connection with everyone in the league. We are clarifying the processes, we have introduced voting where there were none, we want the community to get involved in our processes as much as possible”, said the interviewer.
R. Lapinskas separately singled out the issue of the upcoming LKF presidential elections and critics of the current government.
“We are certainly open to improvement, but we have not received a single offer or advice from some of the basketball stars opposing the federation’s leaders all year!” Meanwhile, LKF General Secretary Mindaugas Balčiūnas was deeply involved in our activities and challenges, helping to solve any issues that arose. So, for the future, I think that it is with this LKF manager that we can continue on the path of growth of our league”, emphasized the MKL manager.
