The scientist called conjunctivitis one of the first signs of “Omicron”

Wear glasses for protection

Eye protection and masks with valves. Andrey Isaev, the founder of the Scientific Center for Molecular Genetic Research, called for such enhanced protection against the Omicron coronavirus strain. It’s all about the greater “penetrating” ability of “Omicron”, as well as the fact that, according to the observations of the scientist, in some cases, conjunctivitis becomes the first symptoms of infection with this strain.

“According to my personal observations, there are patients who were ill with Delta in October, and in January they had covid again. It was probably Omicron, Isaev said. – For such cases, the onset of the disease is characteristic with conjunctivitis, followed by headaches and a runny nose. The most common gateway for infection is the eyes.”

On his page on the social network, Isaev noted that in this regard, eye protection in the form of special glasses should now become a strong deterrent. As for the mask barrier to infection, in the case of Omicron, only respirators with FFP2 and FFP3 valves can be effective.

Recall that special goggles and medical respirators FFP2 are used by doctors in the “red zones”. Respirators can hold particles with a diameter of 2 to 5 microns. Respirators FFP3 (third class of protection) trap particles less than 2 microns.

Meanwhile, it became known that in a number of diagnostic laboratories, where queues for PCR tests have been lining up lately, they stopped taking nasal swabs, paying attention only to swabs from the throat. The thing is that, according to several sources, the Omicron strain is not detected by nasal swabs using a PCR test.
