(Owais Kayani) President Asif Ali Zardari has said that the scope of the Benazir Income Support Program should be further expanded, the number of beneficiaries of the program should be increased for the welfare of the backward classes.

According to the details, President Asif Ali Zardari was met by Chairperson Benazir Income Support Program Rubina Khalid. During the financial year, 598.718 billion rupees were allocated for Income Support Program, Benazir Kafalat Program is the flagship program, under the Kafalat Program, unconditional cash is being provided to eligible women and transgenders across Pakistan.

The President was briefed that 461 billion rupees have been allocated to 9.3 lakh families for the Benazir Kafal program during the financial year 2024-25, 77.18 billion rupees have been allocated to increase enrollment in schools and provide education to children from low-income families. 9.7 million children will benefit from the Benazir Education Scholarship Program, besides Rs. 1.7 billion has been allocated to provide scholarships to 10,000 students under the Scholarships for Undergraduate Program, to combat malnutrition and developmental problems. Special food is also being provided to 2 million pregnant and lactating women and their infants.

President Asif Zardari was told that during the floods in 2022, the Benazir Income Support Program distributed 70 billion rupees to 2.7 million flood-affected families across Pakistan. Appreciated the Benazir Income Support Program.

Taking notice of the 0.45% service charges deduction from Benazir card holders by the banks, the state asked to contact the State Bank to remove the service charges, President Zardari said that the banks should be asked to open the accounts of the beneficiaries of the Income Support Program. The modern payment system will protect the beneficiaries of the program from exploitation.
