The band Druhá trava, multiple winners of the Anděl award playing a mix of bluegrass, folk and country music, will celebrate 33 years on the scene with special concerts in Prague and Brno. Fans will be able to decide on the form of the playlist on the group’s website.
Druhá trava will perform its biggest solo performance so far on December 5 at Prague’s Karlín Forum, a hall with a capacity of up to 3,000 people. A day later, the formation heads to the Mahen Theater in Brno.
At concerts, he will use projection and stage design, on which he collaborates with animator Linda Arbanová. The line-up for both evenings will be strengthened by other players and guests. “We will publish their names gradually,” says manager David Němeček.
Fans of the Second Grass can join the preparations now. The group launched a poll where people can vote on what they would like to hear live. “Singer and lyricist Robert Křestťan pre-selected more than ninety songs. There are also some that the band has not played live for a long time, or even never at all. Everyone can choose five of their favorites,” advises Němeček.
The second grass is ranked among the top of the Czech and Slovak folk & country scene. She released her last album two years ago. The recording, titled Part Two, was the follow-up to the Angel Award-winning Part One. While it was dominated by cover songs that influenced frontman Robert Křestťan in his youth, the “two” consisted primarily of original compositions. The shape of the project was affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Because of her, Druhá trava changed their plans, they were originally going to release a serial album on two discs.
Part one won a gold record. Although the musicians only sold it through their own websites during the anti-pandemic measures, they achieved a turnover of half a million in sales.
Bluegrass Druá tráva is characterized by Robert Křestűan’s exceptional authorship and interpretation, as well as the instrumental prowess of the other members of the group. As one of the few Czech bands with a favorable response, they completed several successful tours in the USA. Peter Rowan, Tony Trischka and Charlie McCoy are among the list of important foreign performers with whom the Second Grass has collaborated. Apart from the singer Křestťana, who was inducted into the hall of fame of the Anděl awards in 2021, Druhá travá features Luboš Malina on banjo and mandolin, Luboš Novotný on lap steel guitar and dobro, Radek Hlávka on guitars, Tomáš Liška on double bass and Martin Novák on drums.
