The new series of meetings with contemporary Greek writers, organized by the Laboratory of Modern Greek Philology of the University of Ioannina, continues on Monday, March 11, with the award-winning author Ilias Papamoschos as the second guest.

The aim of the event is to bring students and the public of the city into contact with important and interventionist writers, whose gaze starts from literature and opens up to the world. The series of events is curated by Kostas Karavidas, a lecturer in the Department of Philology and literary critic.
Kostas Karavidas and the philologist, postgraduate student at the Department of Philology Athena Vourvou will talk about Papamoschos’ novel “Analipsi” (published by Pataki, 2023). It will be followed by a discussion of the author with the audience. It is moderated by the poet Thomas Ioannou. The event, organized in collaboration with Pataki publications, will take place at Skala bar-cafe at 8 pm.
“The Ascension” is a novel about loss and grief, based on a tragic event. The Peristero, a gasoline-powered speedboat, prepares for its maiden voyage on Lake Kastoria. It is June 13, 1929, the day of the Ascension, and the whole city is waiting for the festival in Dispelio, on the so-called Island. The third voyage of the Dove will be wrecked, drowning people, dreams and desires and plunging the city into mourning.
Ilias Papamoschos was born in Kastoria in 1967. A minimalist and writing stylist, with particular achievements in the small form, he has been honored for his collection of short stories “The Fox of the Stairs” with the National Short Story-Novel Prize (2016). “The Ascension” is his eighth book. His short stories have been translated into French, Swedish and Albanian.
