According to VMVT, the outbreak of ACM was detected on Tuesday in Raseiniai district, Šiluva ward, in a farm keeping 24 pigs.

According to the published report, the farmer of the Raseiniai district noticed that the pigs were apathetic and did not eat. The next day four pigs died. The veterinarian was informed about the situation.

Protection and surveillance zones have been established to protect surrounding farms and prevent further spread of the disease, according to the service.

“Due to the AKM outbreak, a nearby large commercial farm, where more than 20,000 animals are kept, is currently restricted. pigs, as well as a farm keeping more than 1 thousand pigs. The complexes will no longer be able to export their production during the specified period, they are subject to movement restrictions,” the report quoted VMVT Deputy Director Paulius Bušauskas as saying.

VMVT recommends pig farmers to comply with biosecurity requirements, to closely monitor herds for high temperatures, loss of appetite and sudden death, and to immediately report any suspected cases to the veterinary services.

Last year, ACM was detected in 3 pig farms. The outbreaks were recorded in Marijampolė, Vilkaviškis and Kalvarija districts. According to the service, this virus becomes active every year during the summer.
