Kenya is an East African country that competes with the South American countries of Colombia and Ecuador as the leading flower exporters in the world.

Flowers exported from Kenya reach European countries after a 30-day journey by sea.

For those who buy flowers, they are advised to keep it for up to 1 week.

The reason why the flowers last so long is the scientific approach of the Kenyan traders.

When the flowers are transported in the ship for 30 days, ensuring a temperature of 0.5 degrees Celsius and maintaining a constant gas of 4% oxygen and 4% carbon dioxide, all the functions of the flower are frozen and the flowers are said to go into a state of dormancy.

Also, flower growers report that because some chemicals are sprayed on the roses to prevent fungal disease, they can be preserved for more than a month.

Economists are of the opinion that since sea transport is cheaper than land and air, and Kenyan florists are better able to cope with export-related challenges, Kenya’s flower trade is likely to earn the country up to 934 million a year.
