The security treaty between China and the Solomon Islands, a “threat” for Australia

For the agreement to be formal, the signatures of the foreign ministers of the two countries are still missing, but it is only a formality.

On Thursday March 31, China and the Solomon Islands reached an agreement to establish a “bilateral security cooperation framework” between the two countries, as stated by the Prime Minister of the Pacific country.

An agreement that had been in preparation for a long time, the content of which is summarized by the BBC in these terms :

“Clauses in this agreement would allow China to send its ships to the archipelago for ‘technical and logistical stops’, which raises fears of the installation of a military base. It also authorizes Beijing to deploy troops there to protect Chinese nationals and projects. According to this draft pact, China will thus be able, at the request of the Solomon Islands, to send ‘police and armed police, military personnel and officers of the ar forces
