For the agreement to be formal, the signatures of the foreign ministers of the two countries are still missing, but it is only a formality.
On Thursday March 31, China and the Solomon Islands reached an agreement to establish a “bilateral security cooperation framework” between the two countries, as stated by the Prime Minister of the Pacific country.
An agreement that had been in preparation for a long time, the content of which is summarized by the BBC in these terms :
“Clauses in this agreement would allow China to send its ships to the archipelago for ‘technical and logistical stops’, which raises fears of the installation of a military base.
