The Catalan countryside has been experiencing a small revolution for a decade. Despite the progressive aging of the peasant population, there is a new generation knocking on the door and asking to be heard. Many are young, raised in the city, but fleeing the neo-rural label. Others are sons and daughters of farmers who are turning the family farm around. Mostly women. They are the new peasantry. We spoke to five of them, three of whom have made the leap from the city to the countryside. We also x-ray the future of farming, the fight to mitigate climate change, rely less on fossil fuels and the path to food sovereignty through techniques such as regenerative agriculture and permaculture.
