E. coli and enterococcus bacteria found in the water of the Seine River in Paris can cause gastrointestinal diseases.

As reported by Day.Az, Time writes about this.

The most common symptoms caused by these bacteria include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, vomiting and nausea. In addition, experts warned about the possible presence of chemical pollutants from industrial waste in the water. Interaction with them is dangerous to health, including skin irritation.

Despite efforts by authorities to clean up the water ahead of the Olympic Games, part of which are to be held on the Seine River, tests continue to reveal unsafe levels of bacteria in the water, the newspaper writes. According to weekly reports published by Paris authorities, the river was safe for swimming on six out of nine days between June 24 and July 2. It is currently unclear whether the river will be safe for swimming during the Olympics.
