“Through WSA’s worldwide network, we search for the most valuable, meaningful digital innovations every year. Unlike most other platforms, initiatives and competitions, WSA focuses on the value and social impact of digital innovation. The global WSA platform is a network that helps to discover examples in each country of how digital solutions can contribute to the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals – not through loud statements or slogans, but through practical benefits for users, communities, and all countries,” says Ieva Žilionienė, Lithuania national expert on the “World Summit Awards” platform, member of the global WSA Board of Directors and head of the “Digital Bookseller” competition commission.
The organizers of the competition organized by the Information Society Development Committee and WSA invite the creators of Lithuanian digital platforms, services, apps, games, solutions and other products to test their strength. The first step towards international evaluation is the registration of the project for the national competition, which takes place on the website www.skaitmeninisknygnesys.lt. Registration opens on April 22. and will be open until June 2.
June 20 the final event of the “Digital Bookmaker” will be held, during which it will be determined which projects will continue their participation in the WSA competition and claim the highest ratings and the opportunity to present themselves to the global competition committee and like-minded people at the WSA World Congress. World Congress in 2025 will bring digital innovators from around the world to Hyderabad, India in the spring.
“The population of Lithuania is only 0.03 percent. of the world’s population, but we won 2 percent during all the years of WSA events. of all WSA winning titles. Even 3 times Lithuanian solutions won the highest title – World Champion. This is a great appreciation for the community of digital creators in our country. And even the fact that Lithuanian representatives cannot boast of exceptional laurels in the WSA competition this year is not a sign that we performed worse – not at all. I would consider this as a sign that developers from other countries have noticed, discovered valuable solutions for their countries or the world. Also – as a sign that the quality bar is rising and the creators of our country need to aim for new heights”, says I. Žilionienė.
in 2022 in the cycle that ended last year, developers from Lithuania won a record number of the highest WSA awards – as many as 3. The competition was won by the Lithuanian project “Teachers Lead Tech”, which prepares primary school teachers to introduce students to the basics of digital literacy. It was recognized as the best digital innovation in the field of education in the world. The authors of the project “Forest Monitoring System: Every Tree Matters” were also decorated with laurels. The system created by them monitors not only forests, but also crops, urban spaces and the effects of the elements on nature. Last year’s third Lithuanian laureate was the “Citify: Your City Tomorrow” project, which introduces citizens, businesses and government institutions to currently ongoing and planned construction projects.
“The greatest value of the World Summit Awards platform is the network of WSA experts, mentors and alumni covering the whole world, as many as 182 countries, which provides an opportunity to make valuable connections, learn from each other, and share best experiences. Although we seem to be geographically far apart, this network is a great example that both the challenges we face as societies and the desire to solve them are universal. Concrete steps, methods, experiences may differ, but this is the strength of WSA – that we can exchange those experiences, create new links and use them, sharing and growing”, – the expert mentions the benefits of participating in the competition.
The winners of the national selection competition will not only receive a ticket to the further international stages of the competition, but will also be awarded with valuable prizes. Also, while preparing for the international presentation, top-level experts will share their experience with them.
The “Digital Booklet” competition is organized by the Information Society Development Committee together with the competition’s friends and associates: “GovTech Lab Lithuania”, association “Infobalt”, SEB, UAB “Tele2”, “Telia Lietuva”, “Brainhack”, “Katalista Ventures”, ” Rockit”.
