The Senate launched Monday, April 17 on its website a consultation open to all until May 14 on low emission zones (ZFE), where the most polluting vehicles are gradually banned from traffic. A generalization in France of these zones is provided for by law by 2025 in the forty-three agglomerations of more than 150,000 inhabitants.

To date, eleven metropolises, the first of which were Lyon, Grenoble and Paris, have their ZFE with different timetables. But the cities come up against the difficulty of the social acceptability of this provision, because of the costs of replacing vehicles. The metropolis of Greater Paris has thus just announced a new postponement of the third stage of its ZFE, which will concern cars displaying a Crit’Air 3 sticker, after Crit’Air 5 and 4.

The Senate, for its part, has set up a fact-finding mission on the acceptability of ZFEs, which should deliver its conclusions in June.

To refine his analysis and “better identify the difficulties” encountered by individuals and professionals, the mission offers an online questionnaire. Among the questions asked: “Are you in favor of setting up EPZs? » ; “Are you planning to change your vehicle in favor of a clean vehicle due to the implementation of ZFEs” ; “Are you aware of the possible financial aid for the acquisition of a clean vehicle? »

Driving or parking in a ZFE with an unauthorized vehicle is liable to a fine of 68 euros, and even 135 euros for coaches and heavy goods vehicles. In the Grand Paris ZFE, more than 780,000 vehicles classified Crit’Air 5 and Crit’Air 4 or unclassified have, theoretically, no longer been allowed to circulate since 1is June 2021. In practice, few sanctions are pronounced. A video verbalization system was planned, but its deployment is delayed.
