The Senate adopted Wednesday, May 10 in first reading, with some modifications, a macronist bill to better inform young people about the financing of the driving license and reduce the time before the exam. The text will now go back to second reading in the National Assembly. With “more than a million and a half” of candidates each year, the driving license “is the first exam in France”indicated Sonia Backès, the Secretary of State in charge of citizenship.

The CPF financed 322,000 driving licenses in 2021, or 28% of the licenses issued that year, with two-thirds of the beneficiaries being people under the age of 35.
On the question of deadlines, to offer more examination slots, the authorization for public or contractual officials to pass the practical test of the permit will be extended to the national level. The senators wanted to give a binding character to the measure in the departments with a median time between two presentations for the driving license greater than 45 days.
