the service still doesn’t work despite promises

In Marsala, protests by numerous citizens continue over the poor functioning of the transport service for disabled people, essential for those who need to go to rehabilitation centers or undergo therapies, such as at the Aias in Contrada San Silvestro. Despite the recent statements of councilor Giusy Piccione, who a few days ago announced that she had found a solution to the problem through an agreement with external parties, the situation does not seem to have improved at all.

Last week, the Municipality of Marsala issued a press release to announce that it had reached an agreement with the Pantere Verdi and Croce Rossa Italiana associations, with the aim of guaranteeing, through drivers and assistants, transport services for disabled people who need to access rehabilitation centers. However, according to what several citizens have reported to us, the service continues to be unreliable and insufficient compared to the growing demand.

Councilor Piccione had admitted the difficulties related to municipal vehicles, which had been broken for months, and had explained that the solution found, although not definitive, had been designed to guarantee the service at least temporarily thanks to the collaboration with volunteer organizations. “The demand is increasingly consistent and if we do not give immediate answers we run the risk of further penalizing disabled people,” she had declared. But it seems that, despite the commitment of external associations, the service does not respond to the real needs of the approximately 150 subjects who have requested it.

Several citizens complain about delays, lack of punctuality and, in some cases, the total lack of available means, forcing families to resort to alternative solutions, often at their own expense. This has generated further frustration among those who expected an improvement after the announcement of the agreement.
