In honor of the Károlyi family, out of gratitude for the cultural heritage linked to the Károlyi family, the Fót municipality organized a Károlyi Day for the 210th anniversary of Ybl’s birth. A hussar parade was held in the castle garden. As it turned out, an authentic costume was also made for Fót based on the original Károlyi hussar outfit.

The program also included the meeting organized in the castle, where the leaders of settlements that were involved in the built or spiritual heritage of the count family were invited to a meeting. The county of Csongrád-Csanád was represented by mayor Endre Szebellédi from Nagymágocs, mayor István Szabó from Derekegyház, municipal representative József Móra from Szentes, and municipal employee János Márton from Árpádhalom. They all presented the role of the Károlyi family in their settlement.

Nagymágocs was the center of the former Károlyi manor in the region. The castle, the granary, the manor house and the church still stand today. Everyone in the settlement knows which count’s family the settlement owes these buildings to, and even the existence of the settlement itself.

During his childhood, Endre Szebellédi met Count Lajos Károlyi several times during the summer, who spent part of his summers in Nagymágocs. According to him, he learned a lot from him.

Although with the change of the spirit of the times, the abolition of the feudal system provided the opportunity for a wide range of society to prosper more freely, the view of the Károlians is still valid and timely. And this is patriotism and the will to act for the nation arising from individual ability. In my presentation, I emphasized that our region had an active role in the national economy during the time of the Charles, which was changed in a negative direction by the Trianon tragedy. In order to eliminate this, the solution must be sought even today, and it must be possible to return to the economic circulation

said Endre Szebellédi.
