For eleven days, Petroecuador technicians worked on a variant of the Shushufindi-Quito pipeline route to prevent damage to the infrastructure due to the regressive erosion of the Quijos River and its tributaries.

This infrastructure transports fuel derivatives such as Diesel 2, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and gasoline.

The construction of the 637-metre-long variant was carried out in the Loco River area in the province of Napo.

The objective of this work is to mitigate the risks associated with regressive erosion.

Construction work was carried out between June 22 and July 2, 2024, involving machinery, welding equipment and all necessary materials.

The Shushufindi-Quito pipeline transports an average of 157,683 barrels per day and supplies the Beaterio and Oyambaro terminals.

The new pipeline was interconnected with the existing one, guaranteeing normal operation and maintaining supply to the terminals.

Regulatory, technical and safety procedures were followed throughout all phases of the works, including ultrasound and hydrostatic testing.
