The women of public employment continued. By 2022, women represent 63% of the civil service workforce. This division increased by 2 points between 2011 and 2022, according to a study by the General Council of Administration and Public Service (DGAFP) published in July. In contrast, women are the few in the private sector (43%).

This gender gap in the public service is particularly linked, according to the research, to the rise of the contract in recent years. Among the 5.7 million representatives, more than one in five are on contract in 2022. They then represent 22% of civil service workers (compared to 17% in 2011). However, the share of women is the largest among contract workers: they represent 67% of the workforce in 2011. The rate which has increased by 2 points in eleven years (69% in 2022).
