The Bank of Israel has updated that it is changing the English inscription on coins of 10 shekels, 5 shekels, half shekels and 10 shekels from SHEQALIM to SHEKELS | The new inscription will be on the relevant coins from the year of minting “the 5th year”, and in addition to the change of the inscription in English, the words “new shekel” worth half a shekel and the word “Agorat” worth 10 agorat were added in Arabic
The Bank of Israel announced today (Wednesday) that in the coming days coins in the denominations of 10 shekels, 5 shekels, half shekels and 10 shekels will be distributed for the first time from the year of minting “Hatashfab”. The inscription of the word “shekels” in the Arabic and English languages has been updated: the word SHEKALIM has been updated to the word SHEKELS, and the words “New Shekel” in the half shekel coin and the word “Agoras” in the 10 agora coin were also added in Arabic.
The inscriptions were updated in accordance with the directives of the Academy of Hebrew and Arabic in Israel, and were adjusted to the existing inscriptions on banknotes and commemorative coins issued by the Bank of Israel. No changes were made to the obverse sides of the obverse and they remained as determined when the obverse was first issued.

The bank also emphasizes that coins bearing the previous inscriptions will remain valid and their use will remain alongside the coins bearing the updated inscriptions. The new coins will be distributed to the public in the coming days through the banking corporations, the Israel Post Company and the public treasury at the Bank of Israel in Jerusalem.
During the coming months, coins with updated inscriptions will also be distributed to the public in denominations of NIS 2 and NIS 1.
