Three residents of Samaria were arrested yesterday (Thursday) and were taken for questioning by the Shin Bet following the riots and arson in Palestinian settlements after the attack at the Ali intersection on the Fourth. According to the Honnu organization that represents the settlers, they were arrested late in the evening in Samaria by detectives from the central unit in the Judea and Samaria district of the police, and taken to a facility for questioning Shin Bet

Four people were killed in the attack at the Ali intersection on Rabai. After the attack, settlers from the northern Samaria area began to enter Palestinian villages armed, and set fire to buildings and vehicles. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, a Palestinian youth was killed by gunfire in the village of Turmus Aya. However, according to the Shia District Police, the shooting was carried out by a policeman during a riot by Palestinian residents. In response to the IDF spokesman’s media, it was said that the IDF does not have enough forces to deal with settler riots at the same time as terrorism. Yesterday (Thursday) additional clashes began in the area of the village of Kosra in Samaria, and a Palestinian field was set on fire.

This is the first arrest made since the beginning of these events. The police and Shin Bet did not inform the media about the arrest, and did not specify why those settlers were arrested.

At the hearing held at the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court, the judges decided to extend their detention until Monday. At the beginning of the hearing, the Shin Bet representatives requested a gag order on the affair, after the objection of the lawyers Adi Kidar and Nati Rom from the Honnu organization, a gag order was issued on the details of the investigation only. The Shin Bet’s request to extend the detention by ten days was also rejected. An extraordinary decree was issued against the settlers which forbids them to meet with their lawyers.

According to the Honnu organization, the three are in their twenties, friends of those murdered in the fatal attack on my husband, one of them is married. Their situation is not yet clear.

The three are represented by attorney Nati Rom and attorney Adi Kider from the Honnu organization. In an urgent appeal filed by Attorney Kidar, he wrote that “the counsel for the appellants was not given anything regarding the suspicions attributed to them and therefore the defense has no choice but to wonder whether this is in connection with Kaori to the events that took place after the attack on my husband and the protest of the residents… If indeed this is the case, then I believe that there is no reason Arbitrated to activate the meeting prevention order that is supposed to be reserved for extreme cases.”
