The shipping dilemma: speed or free?

by time news

Just before Purim, and with Passover around the corner, many stores and companies are preparing for a period of heavy deliveries. A survey conducted by the delivery company GetPackage, in collaboration with the Panels research institute, among 502 small and medium business owners found that 75% of the deliveries they make are within 20 km, and that many of them believe that day-to-day deliveries will increase their sales revenue. According to VP The company’s marketing, Ram Stein, is about increasing revenue by about 30%.

Let’s recall that during the Corona period, the value of express deliveries increased, but with the return to normality in the trade sector, there was a decrease in demand in this sector. In fact, another recently published survey, conducted by the American software company SHIPPO among a thousand retailers and a thousand consumers, reveals that most consumers prefer free shipping (75%) over fast shipping (25%).

Baguette Package examined the barriers to using the overnight delivery option on the part of business owners, and found that the main barrier is the cost of delivery (36%), followed by the lack of urgency and need (26%), the lack of such a service in the area (8%), insufficient time to prepare the order (7%) and lack of demand from customers (4%).

The company has been operating in Israel in its current form since 2018, and its clients include Golda, KSP, Max Brenner, Kimberly Clark, Ivory and 80,000 other companies and individuals. Contrary to what is common in the market, her model does not require minimum deliveries. “From the point of view of a business owner, such a commitment increases the risk,” says Stein. “With us, whether it’s one delivery a month or a thousand, the price will be NIS 30 in the regional range.”

The company explains that their profit derives from a business model reminiscent of Walt’s: the couriers choose which deliveries to take, and the company only employs technologists. “We have no warehouses, no fixed costs, real estate, forklifts, trucks, insurance and drivers’ wages. This allows us to give a low price,” says Stein. “So far we have made over a million deliveries in Israel – all from one day to the next.”

Look at the ecological jug

The well-known expression says that one should not look at the jar but at what is in it, but the packaging also has meaning, especially when an effort is made to make them ecological.

This month, the World Packaging Organization held the World Star Packaging competition, and four Israeli companies were recognized for producing environmentally friendly products. The first is Strauss ice creams with “ice creams and sweet treats” packaging, which allows landfill savings of 40 tons of Styrofoam per year. NotFromHere presented the game GO cube, which as part of the “unboxing” trend gives the consumer a gaming experience right when opening, by means of a sustainable, rotating and three-dimensional packaging that matches the product itself.

The MEYAL PACK company presented a water jug packaging that incorporated recycled materials that are unique to the worlds of egg packaging, and “Dikm Ein Harod” developed a sticker roll that is one of the first of its kind in the world, where the stickers roll over themselves, without carrier paper separating them – which reduces polluting waste.

According to Oren Harambam, Director of the Consumer Products and Construction Industries Association of the Manufacturers Association, “This is a significant achievement for the Israeli manufacturing industry, which preserves its position as a leader and progressive in the world arena.”
