The end of the hunt: Tonight (Monday), the police located the vehicle of the suspect responsible for the shooting that took place last night in the city of Monterey Park in California, in which 10 people were murdered and 10 more were injured. The forces surrounded his vehicle for a short time – and finally found the body of the shooter in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, after he apparently ended his life by shooting himself.
According to reports in the American media, the suspect who committed suicide is Ho Ken Tran, a 72-year-old resident of the city. The local police stated that Tran was in possession of an illegal weapon with which he committed the shooting before committing suicide. The motive for the massacre remains unclear at this stage, but the police said that the possibility of a hate crime has not yet been ruled out.
Remember, the shooting happened yesterday at 22:22 (according to local time), when Tran arrived at a dance hall and opened fire on the revelers who were celebrating the Chinese New Year. Witnesses who were present at the event said that they heard gunfire, but thought that it was fireworks that were set off as part of the party – and only later realized that it was a shooting incident. Tran fled the scene after committing the shooting and drove to the town of Torrance, where police located his vehicle.
The police are now looking into whether there is a connection between the event in Monterey Park and another event that took place that evening in the nearby city of Alhambra. According to reports, an armed man entered a dance club where a party was taking place to mark the Chinese New Year – but there the security guards managed to confiscate his weapon before he opened fire. No one was injured, and the suspect fled the scene.
