The suspect in the shooting incident in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, was transferred today (Monday) to supervision in the closed psychiatric ward. In addition, authorities in the Scandinavian country said that the suspicion that this was a terrorist incident was ruled out.

The suspect in the shooting, a 22-year-old Danish man, opened fire on shoppers at the Fields mall in southern Copenhagen yesterday, killing three people and fatally injuring four. The suspect was arrested and charged with committing murder, and premeditated murder. He is now being held for another 24 days during which he will undergo a psychiatric examination.

The city police chief said no terrorist act could be seen in the incident, based on the available evidence. In addition, he noted that there was no indication that the suspect had additional aides. “The suspect was preparing for the tragic incident,” the commander added at a press conference, “but our assessment now is that his victims are random.”

Eyewitnesses, who told Danish media about the incident, said that “the shooter simply fired into the crowd, he did not aim at the floor or ceiling”. “Suddenly we heard shots, about ten. We ran into the small toilets in the mall, we were crammed into 11 people,” another witness added.
