A young woman tells that she has been looking for a house for two months; Impossible prices are added clauses such as cleaning the portal and stairs. “The owners are taking advantage”, alert from a real estate agency

Theories are galore. The one that says that home price must not exceed 30% of income, that of the limit of 40 times —the annual salary must be, at least, equal to the rent multiplied by 40—, and the latest cry in impossible norms for the majority of young people: that of 50/20/30. Here half of the salary goes to basic expenses, 20% goes to savings and 30% is for personal issues. Raquel knows these rules, like so many 23-year-old girls who, like her with her first salary, just want to emancipate and be independent.

Graduated in Journalism and employed by a communication agency, this Boirense woman doesn’t get the numbers right and from adult life she knows, more than anything, the troubles and tedium caused by conversations about bills, contracts and taxes. After two months living in A Coruña, until a few days ago he was not able to find an apartment that suited his needs and that, of course, he could afford. He decided to buckle down a bit for worthwhile housing, but in the end it was all a mirage and life goes on the same.

The speculation that takes off in A Coruña: «Garage spaces that until recently cost 18,000 euros are now at 30,000»

«Finally I thought I was lucky because I found a flat in Plan and Cancel for 530 euros, almost a miracle; In addition, the owner was in charge of issues that are often passed on to the tenant, such as non-payment insurance. He continues: «I went to visit the apartment and everything went well; the landlord did not tell me anything strange, so I left quite determined. The problem is that, when he had already made all the arrangements, he sent me the contract to sign it and I saw that in one of the clauses it said that I had to take care of cleaning the portal and the stairsin a shift that would be assigned to me ».

Raquel explains that she contacted the owner because she had not communicated this detail, to tell him that she did not agree with this extra assignment of tasks. “Then she told me that if I did not accept, she had a queue of people waiting for me to accept this condition.” After several days, the truth is that this property is still available on different platforms.

Thus, Raquel continues to live at a friend’s house and considers that, perhaps, she cannot live close to work. “That or share, which she did not want, but I still have no choice,” she says. Her situation will not be alien to the thousands of young people looking for a flat every day unsuccessfully. The students do not have anyone who loves them, and those who are already employed do not receive their salary. Antonio Correa, from the Backhome real estate company, is not very optimistic about this situation. «There are many owners who are taking advantage of the precarious situation of young peoplealthough A Coruña is not at the moment or similar to what happens in Madrid or Barcelona”, he indicates, to add: “Many times the landlords put superabusive clauses because they know that either you accept the conditions that are demanded of you or you are left without a flat; This is what happens with this issue of cleaning the common areas, I had never seen it, but I have seen other even stranger things ».

In Romar real estate they see it similar. «It is not a usual practice; In fact, the owner is usually in charge, the same as with the payment of the community or the IBI, but if it appears in the contract and the tenant accepts the clause, it is legal. The issue is that one thing is legal and another is moral. AND sometimes you see things that are neither moral nor normal».
