Glad he took the risk

D. Soke has always been good at exact sciences, but she never dreamed of studying mathematics. However, the expectations of relatives and a promising future prevailed – the young woman obtained a master’s degree in mathematics and started working as an accountant.

“In my life, I always wanted to work for myself, plan my schedule, avoid regular working hours, I wanted work to be my favorite.” I didn’t want to worry about going to work tomorrow on Sunday. Since I had graduated in mathematics, I initially worked with individual activities in this field. After working for a year, I realized that it is work not only from morning to evening, but also on weekends, evenings, and nights. It was responsible, hard work,” says S. Sokė.

Although D. Soke’s activities as an accountant were successful and there was no shortage of clients, the woman began to think about new professional aspirations. The thought turned into a body when the girl from Šiauliai decided to learn the subtleties of long-term makeup in various seminars and courses.

“For as long as I can remember, since my school days, I have always liked the field of beauty. I used to do gel nail polish on myself, I managed to do a good job of make-up both for myself and for my friends. I started looking for a sphere where I could realize myself. Today, I’m glad that I took a risk and I’m where I am,” says the beauty specialist who changed her career five years ago.

When you know that you want to change something in your life, you have to take certain steps for it, the interlocutor is convinced. However, D. Sokė was in no hurry to dive headfirst into a new profession. For some time, the woman tried to combine the work of an accountant with a new activity in the field of beauty. However, the rapidly expanding circle of clients eventually allowed me to focus only on the new work.

Dive into the specialty of cosmetics

The step that changed the career direction brought more changes in D. Sokė’s life. After four years of working in a beauty salon, the girl from Šiauliai returned to studies. This time, she turned to Šiauliai Technology Training Center, Art and Beauty Services Department, where she is still studying.

“I chose the cosmetology specialty because I needed this qualification at work. I wanted to expand the long-term make-up services with new facial and body treatments. These sciences are very useful for me professionally. I do not rule out the possibility that after these studies I will expand the range of services I provide even more”, says D. Sokė.

The future cosmetologist mentions that the field of skills of representatives of this profession is very wide. They can perform facial cleansing, various hardware body and face procedures, massages, manicures, depilation, make-up and other services.

When asked why she chose the vocational training center to acquire a profession, the interviewer did not say much. The essential levers – free education, teachers who are specialists in their field, a flexible schedule that can be combined with work, and the duration of studies – determined her choice.

“Before I started my studies, I was afraid. I thought that everyone in this educational institution would be young. But it turns out that these sciences are chosen by women of all ages – both those in their twenties and those in their fifties. All my classmates are friendly, many have families and jobs. And although there is an age difference between everyone, we get along great. The teachers themselves are very competent. They have all worked in this job, so they know everything and the practical side,” smiles the beauty specialist.

Get knowledge – to Spain

Šiauliai Technology Training Center provides an opportunity to do internships abroad. As one of the most memorable experiences, D. Sokė names a trip to Spain under the Erasmus+ exchange program. Working in a professional foreign beauty salon was a particularly valuable experience that broadened the range of available knowledge and revealed interesting details about the beauty standards of the local people.

“The salon where I did my internship offered the following services: manicures, pedicures, facials, massages and waxing. I can say that women look at beauty services abroad much more simply than in Lithuania. And the clients themselves are more relaxed, they are not attached to a specific specialist. The Spanish people really liked the services I provided, I immediately received offers to stay to work”, – the interviewer remembers her professional internship with a smile.

The beauty specialist, who does not lack determination and enthusiasm, is constantly diving into new adventures. She is active not only in her professional path, but also in her life.

“I like adrenaline, so I have also tried extreme entertainment, such as skydiving and paragliding. By the way, I plan to jump rope – the interviewer laughs. “If we’re going on a further trip, I never miss an opportunity to jump off a big cliff.”

Many of D. Soke’s choices in life required courage. However, the woman says that everyone who wants to bring new winds into their daily life must be determined to change.

“If we talk about the profession, one thing should be kept in mind – if you don’t succeed, you can try other fields. All that can be lost is investment and time. But if you don’t try, you’ll stay where you are. After all, trying something new is always good. I was lucky because I had my biggest supporter by my side – my husband. He immediately supported my ambition to change my profession”, says the beauty specialist.
