All about Apple

It is already a known fact that the Simpsons, in their decades of existence, were able to predict many events in modern society. Some even with impressive precision. And the recent launch of the Apple Vision Pro led animation fans to search and discover that yes, The Simpsons also predicted the launch of the virtual reality headset.

In an old episode of Homer’s family animated series, the scenes are very similar to what we have seen since the beginning of February, of people using Vision Pro. Using Vision Pro in public is unusual, as it is possible to observe people interacting with “nothing” physically, however, with someone inside the augmented reality headset.

The Simpsons prediction

It is true that, when talking about a series that has 35 seasons and more than 700 episodes, the possibilities for the content to reproduce situations and scenes from reality are wide, but even so, the way in which an episode managed to convey exactly what we have seen in the use of the Apple Vision Pro is impressive.

  • The episode that previewed Vision Pro was shown in October 2016. In it, Mr Burns becomes addicted to virtual reality technology, after running over Professor Frink, who was wearing a “Frink Oculus” headset.
  • Burns can’t put the device down and Smithers suggests programming a family for him within virtual reality.
  • At the end of the episode, the future is shown — and the inhabitants of Springfield all have a version of the Oculus, including Homer and Marge. The episode’s acid criticism shows these people completely obsessed with technology, but ignoring what is happening in the “real world”.
