Eight years after its first release, The Sims 4 is now free to play.

EA recently announced that starting October 18, the base game will be free for everyone across PC, Mac, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. For PC and Mac owners, the game will be available for free through the EA app known as Origin, or via Steam.

As for the way to make money from the game, the new move may inevitably increase the company’s profits. The number of exclusive addon packs available right now is really huge, and EA intends to keep developing and releasing more of them.

For subscribers who have already pre-purchased The Sims 4, they will be rewarded with a free Desert Luxe Kit from now until October 17th. The package includes “luxury indoor and outdoor furniture, inspired by the natural features of the southwestern desert and its materials including stone and wood.”

EA Play and EA Play Pro members will get an “Enhanced Experience” by October 18. The Sims 4 EA Play Edition will include The Sims 4 Get To Work expansion pack, while the EA Play Pro Edition includes The Sims 4 Get To Work and The Sims 4 Toddler Stuff Pack.

For everyone who wants to play the base game for free next month and wants to enjoy some of its paid add-ons, EA indicated that you need an “active platform account (eg. Steam), internet connection, and an EA account.” So keep that in mind as you browse through the huge amount of additional content.
