A strong storm hit the Slovak music festival Pohoda on Friday evening, where one of the big tents collapsed. The police of the Trenčín Region, where the festival is taking place, announced this on Facebook. According to her, emergency services are on the scene. Rescuers said several people were injured. The Czech authorities have no information that Czech citizens were among the injured.

“No Czech citizen contacted our embassy in Bratislava in connection with the events at the Pohoda festival. Even the Slovak police, with whom we are in contact, according to our information, did not notice that Czech citizens contacted them in this matter,” said the spokesperson of Foreign Affairs Daniel Drake.

The Slovak emergency services received the notification about the collapse of the tent after half past seven in the evening. “The intervention of the rescuers is ongoing. So far we only have information about the slightly injured,” said the Slovak operations center of the rescuers, according to Aktuality.sk. It later stated that they treated ten slightly injured people on the spot, who were then taken to hospitals in Trenčín and Považská Bystrica. These were mostly injuries to the head and hands.

The storm and wind hit the Slovenská spořitelna tent, under which the stage was located, the worst. “I was there and managed to run outside. When the side and the corner fell, it looked like the whole tent would fall,” one of the witnesses described the situation on the spot. Other tents in the area, including food and drink stands and visitors’ tents in the tent cities, were also damaged. In addition to the Slovenská spořitelna tent, storms and gales destroyed the stage of aktualit.sk from the big stages.

The organizers interrupted the evening program on all stages. It is not yet clear whether the Pohoda festival, which started on Thursday and was supposed to last until Saturday, will end early. On the main stages of the multi-genre event, which has a capacity of around 30,000 visitors, the London band Morcheeba and the Australian Pendulum were supposed to perform on Friday evening.
